Joining The Party

Well we have finally decided to hop on the band wagon. Join the party. Keep up with the Joneses. Whatever you want to call it.

We want to get a Wii.

Unfortunately, where can we find one? I don't know when we will be in the city next and all of the online stores seem to be out of stock every single time I check.

Which is a real shame. Toys R Us has an awesome bundle deal with games and remotes, but it's not in stock. I actually called their 1-800 number to inquire as to if/when it would be in stock. Of course, she has no idea when their stock gets replenished or how many they will get. I even asked what time to check their website. She couldn't help me. So we called the Saskatoon store and apparently they have been getting lots of calls about this particular item. It's only available online.

Huh.

So now what do we do?

I guess for now we check the TRU website 16 times a day in the hopes that soon there will be a bundle available?!?

Chatty Kathy

John took a video of Ella this afternoon.

She talked the ENTIRE time.

The video was 5 minutes long!

The ENTIRE time she talked!

And the video was at the end of her large storytelling session.

Apparently she likes to talk a little.

Actually, we have heard that so many times lately.

"Wow, she really likes to talk, doesn't she".

"You have quite a talker there".

Or the more subtle conversation: "Your girls are so very different from each other...one does all the talking for both of them".

Ella is only 2.

We're a little scared to see how much she will talk when she is 6 or 10 or 16.

Yikes!

Clink Clink Pink

Today I received a lovely letter in the mail that I am a winner of a Moxie's Dinner for 4 contest.

It is valued at $200!!

I'm not too sure that we could consume $200 worth of food/appetizers and drinks in one evening, but hey...it's all free!! Now to figure out who to take with us....

My sister Roxanne has also won this same contest, which is how I heard about it. Honestly, I only entered it a couple of times a while ago. Never thought any more about it until today when I got my mail.

Yippee!!

So if you too are interested, the Clink Clink Pink contest is open to those who live in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

There are 1000 chances to win. 200 winners per province. The contest is still open until December 18 so you have a month to try and win too.

To enter, you will need this UPC number 8500000783 (or another Gallo White Zinfandel upc)

Good luck!

Living Vicariously Through Others

This week we are all sick with colds.

It's not the "stop everything and lie around for 3 days" kind of cold, but still it is not fun.

Whiny (extra whiny) children, shorter sleeps, lots of kleenex.

So today, I am living vicariously through someone else.

My good friend is on a road trip today. She left her children with her husband for 2days while she and another friend travel to relive their childhood fantasies.

Where are they going?

Edmonton.

Why there?

Well, you may think I'm a little crazy for admiring it in a way. It's a little out there, but I think it would be a lot of fun too.

They are going to the NKOTB concert tonight.

NKOTB?

Yep. The New Kids On The Block.

Months ago when their reunion was announced my sister called me up and asked if I was interested in going.

Interested? No, not really.

Intrigued? Yes. Definitely yes.

On Sunday, this friend and I watched several YouTube videos to relive the "good ol' days". Surprisingly, she remembered more lyrics than I did. It was a lot of fun to reminisce, sing along and also laugh at the hideous hair and outfits.

I was a huge New Kids fan back in the day. Oh yes, my walls were plastered with posters (anyone remember the large shirtless picture of Jordan that covered half my wall?), I had the cassette tapes, I had the sweatshirt. I was a huge fan!

I remember how jealous I was when friends of mine in elementary school were allowed to go to the concert. I think that I was convinced that one of them was going to impress Jordan and they would fall madly in love and get married. Thus, crushing my dreams forever.

Fortunately, my childhood fantasies have vanished. I am happily married to a man who doesn't understand how girly crushes work. At the time, they are very real and in depth. I just like to think that my Jordan crush helped to prepare me for the real world and my very real husband.

John thinks I'm nuts. He also thinks my friend is nuts for going tonight.

I, for one, hope that she has a fabulous time tonight.

And just for fun, here's a great video to help you relive those days (if you want to, that is...)

A New Hobby

Today I began a new hobby.

It's a lot of fun and it's delicious!

It's also not very good for me, but I just couldn't resist.

Today I started making chocolates.

I bought some chocolate molds on Ebay about 10 months ago and last week I finally bought the chocolate wafers and flavorings to try it out.

So far I have tried out 3 different molds. I have 9 more to try, but those ones will be more difficult and time-consuming because I will be putting fillings inside (turtles, coconut and caramels) or painting colorful details.

I bought 3 different kinds of chocolate; white, milk and my personal favorite...dark chocolate.

It's not perfect yet, but here's my first attempt:

Peppermint Snowflakes:

Dark Chocolate gingerbread man:
White/Dark Chocolate marble stars (Almond flavoring) :

Snowy

This morning we woke up to the first real snow.

It's the wet sticky variety which is perfect for making a snowman.

The girls are ABSOLUTELY thrilled that the snow is here.

Today they excitedly pulled out their new winter boots and paraded around the house for 20 minutes before we left to take Brie to Pre-K.

I can't really say that I share their enthusiasm for snow, but I do delight in their joy!

This morning Ella and I got out the shovels and scraped the driveway. Not really necessary since it's melting anyways, but she was literally begging to play outside.

So, good mother that I am (ahem), I took her outside to shovel.

I really don't like shovelling.

I really don't like winter.

It's the cold. I can't take the cold.

But we just went out for a short while this morning, and I'm sure that the girls will want to go back out again this afternoon.

I'm SOOO thankful that they are getting to the age where I can leave them in the backyard unattended and not have to worry about them.

Maybe they will let me curl up on the couch with some tea and a good book this afternoon while they play outside.

Speaking of tea, Mighty Leaf sent me my order twice because there was some type of shipping delay. It was an accident, but I emailed them to find out what they wanted me to do with the second order. I get to enjoy that one too!! How awesome. Especially now that the snow is here.

Colors

Earlier this week we were able to watch Brie's dance class.

There is only one week for the entire year where parents get to watch and see what takes place during the class.

It's a lot of fun to watch!

All of those girls in their pinkness, twirling around like fairies.

They are dreaming, imagining, hoping.

They are absolutely beautiful!

Last year Brie's bodysuit and skirt were black but she informed me this year that she really wanted pink like all of the other girls.

Which is strange, because although I do have a girly girl, her favorite color is not the usual

It's not pink or purple.

No, her favorite color is red.

Anyone that knows her even a little bit, will likely have been informed of this at some point in their conversations with her. If she is ever given a choice of color for absolutely anything, she will ALWAYS choose red. Red candy, red paint, red shoes, red clothes...

Because red is Brianna's favorite color.

No one else's.

Just Brie's.

For a very long time she has held this idea that only one person can pick a color to be their favorite. Once it is spoken for, that color is no longer available to anyone else.

And you are not allowed to change your favorite colors.

End of story.

So apparently my favorite was, is, and always will be blue.

John's is green, according to Brie.

Ella's is yellow. Forever and ever.

I think she may be slightly opinionated.

Have you ever tried to find red clothes for girls? It's harder than you would think!

We are soon going to "retire" the good ol' red pants that Brie has worn for probably 2 years now. They are way too short so she is only allowed to wear them at home. But she chooses those pants as soon as they are clean to wear again. They are truly the favorite garment in her wardrobe. She will wear them with any shirt, which isn't always a good match, but I try to let it go most times since it isn't hurting anyone. (Well sometimes it hurts my eyes)

Red pants with blue shirt:
Red pants with a different shade of red bunnyhug: (yes I DO call it a bunnyhug because I am from Saskatchewan!!)

Red pants with fuchsia shirt (deep sigh for this one):

Fortunately I have found a couple red things to replace it with. No red pants, but she has a red shirt and a red fleece vest.

With Christmas and birthdays coming up shortly, I keep hearing from family how difficult it is to find girly red clothes.

Yeah, tell me about it!

Good thing for Ebay.

...And just try to make red icing.

Go on!

I dare ya! Open up that bottle of "red" food coloring.

It can't be done.

The icing will ALWAYS be pink. White + Red = Pink. Every time pink.

I am so very thankful that I found a tube of red icing last year. Because of course, the ballerina needed to be red.

Not pink. Red.

Always red.

Exciting Church News

I can't believe that I haven't shared this exciting news yet!!

On Sunday, we found out that our church IS getting a full-time pastor!

We have been here for over 3 1/2 years now and this is the first time that we will have someone working and being compensated for it full-time. (Not to say that the previous people were not putting in full-time hours because I'm sure that some of them were.)

This is a pastor that has a one-year old and they are expecting their second child this spring. So we will have some more young blood to grace our church's pews each week.

It's so exciting to see progress in our church this fall. Other young moms have started to attend and that pretty much doubles the number of families with small children. It's very encouraging to know that we aren't just one of two families who take their children to church anymore.

I am hoping and praying for this pastor and his young family as they will begin to make this town their home. God is going is working in the hearts of all of us as we wait to see what He has in store for our church in the coming years.

Yay!

Family Pictures

On the weekend of Thanksgiving, we had some family pictures taken by the river.

We just received our photo catalogue and now we have to narrow down our choices. I thought I would share a few photos. Some are candids and some are posed, but still relaxed. We are quite pleased with the selection!

Let me know what you think.

Compassion Bloggers Are In The DR

Yesterday Compassion International sent several bloggers to the Dominican Republic.

Some of you may recall that Compassion sent their first set of bloggers to Uganda in February. Reading some of their stories, and watching their videos made me think of our own child that we sponsor.

Ashly actually is from the DR. So I'm curious to know if she will run into these bloggers while they are there this week.

She is turning 5 this week. What a special week for this precious child. We continue to send letters back and forth to her. Her last letter said that she would send us a picture of her birthday. She also asked me to teach her one of our songs. She asked "are they beautiful?"

How could you not love a girl like that?

So I need to pray for these bloggers this week, for whoever they meet, whoever they come into contact with. That God would be encouraging, healing and changing lives.

Make sure you check out the frequent updates from these bloggers too. Here's the list of them:

Jennifer Dovavan from 5MinutesForMom
Mary Ostyn from Owl Haven
Nick Challies from Challies Jr
Marlboro Man from Pioneer Woman
Melanie from The Big Mama
Tim Challies from Challies

and the leaders:

Brian Seay
Shaun Groves
Keely Scott (photographer)

Please keep these people in your prayers this week too.

Only 84 Days!!

Well it is official!!!!

John and I are going to Mexico in January!!

We leave on January 25, in exactly 84 days from today (but who's counting?!?).

We are going to the Riviera Maya, where we will enjoy the amazing hot sun, beautiful beaches, great food and drinks, Caribbean water, sightseeing (Ancient Mayan ruins), shopping and enjoying 10 years of married bliss.

Well maybe not every moment has been bliss, but it certainly is an accomplishment to make it to 10 years in tact. Those things that test us can only make us stronger, right?

Our all-inclusive package includes the usuals; water sports, snorkeling, food (7 a la carte restaurants) & drinks, and some extras such as dance lessons (how on earth can I convince John that this will be FUN?), archery, lazy river with tubes in the pool, and an ice cream parlour.

Alright so now I really need to work on this exercise stuff. I haven't been very dedicated to the treadmill lately and the eating...well I just like food and it's soooo hard not to snack in the evenings. But I only have 84 days to get in shape.

Oh I am soooo looking forward to this trip!!
